Hotel Description

Nestled in the enchanting heart of Venice, Il Nido di San Stae stands as a charming 3-star retreat offering an authentic Venetian experience. This well-appointed hotel, boasting an impressive 8.1 rating from satisfied guests, occupies a privileged position in the historic Santa Croce district, one of Venice’s six sestieri (districts) known for its delightful blend of local character and proximity to major attractions. Located at S.Croce, 1984, the hotel’s name “Il Nido” (meaning “The Nest” in Italian) perfectly captures its intimate and welcoming atmosphere, providing a comfortable sanctuary after days spent exploring the magical city of canals. The San Stae portion of its name refers to its proximity to the San Stae vaporetto stop and the elegant Church of San Stae along the Grand Canal, placing guests in an ideal position to experience both iconic landmarks and hidden gems of La Serenissima.

The hotel’s strategic location in Santa Croce offers guests the best of both worlds – a respite from Venice’s most tourist-heavy areas while maintaining excellent accessibility to its wonders. From Il Nido di San Stae, the magnificent Rialto Bridge is just a short scenic walk away, as is the renowned Scuola Grande di San Rocco with its stunning Tintoretto masterpieces. The extraordinary St. Mark’s Square, with its basilica and campanile, can be reached via a picturesque 20-minute stroll through Venice’s atmospheric streets or by a romantic gondola ride along the Grand Canal. Art enthusiasts will appreciate the hotel’s proximity to the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, while those seeking authentic Venetian cuisine will discover numerous traditional bacari (wine bars) and trattorias tucked away in the neighboring calli (streets) and campi (squares). The nearby Fondaco dei Turchi, home to the Natural History Museum, and the Church of San Giacomo dell’Orio with its remarkable ceiling offer cultural experiences just steps from the hotel’s doorway.

With its strong 8.1 rating, Il Nido di San Stae has established itself as a trusted choice among discerning travelers seeking quality accommodations without the premium prices of Venice’s larger luxury establishments. Guests consistently praise the hotel’s attentive service, which strikes the perfect balance between professional efficiency and warm Italian hospitality. The 3-star rating reflects the hotel’s commitment to providing comfortable, well-maintained accommodations with essential amenities while allowing guests to invest more of their travel budget in experiencing Venice’s countless treasures. What truly sets Il Nido di San Stae apart, however, is its authentic connection to the living, breathing city beyond the tourist trail. From your base in this charming nest, you’ll witness the rhythm of daily Venetian life – laundry hanging from windows, the morning chatter at local cafés, children playing in small campos, and the gentle sound of water lapping against centuries-old buildings. Here, in this perfectly positioned retreat within the historic Santa Croce district, you’ll discover not just accommodation, but a genuine doorway into the soul of Venice, where every winding alley, hidden courtyard, and peaceful canal tells a story of the city’s remarkable past and vibrant present.

Reviews

  • Scott from Australia – 2 July 2024 (9/10)

Great location. They meet us at the room and showed us local things like shops etc

  • Aman from United States – 26 September 2023 (9/10)

The property is super close to S State boat station. Also, the room are pretty big with a nice breakfast table for family.

What could be improved: There were mosquitoes and we had to use spray and ointments.

  • Blanka from Italy – 27 February 2025 (7/10)

The apartment was quite spacious, comfortable and quiet. The location was also very good.

What could be improved: The kitchen was very narrow, without window and with basic equipment only. Cups and other dishware was missing. There was no possibility to leave the luggage 2 hours longer after the check out.

  • Nick from Canada – 20 July 2024 (9/10)

The location was excellent, only steps away from the San Stae Vaporetto stop which was very convenient for us with two children and luggage. It is not easy to get around Venice since there are no cars/taxis otherwise. It is in a quiet neighborhood but still a lot of cafes, shops and restaurants nearby right on a small canal. Only 10-15 minute walk away from the busier tourist areas.

The apartment itself is very traditional which we loved. The bedrooms are a good size and the beds comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom were a bit small but this was not an issue for us. The wifi dis not reach the bedrooms well, but we were not there for this so it was not a bother.

The host was extremely friendly, accommodating and very responsive to any questions we had.

What could be improved: We were there in the middle of a heat wave and one of the bedrooms is not air conditioned. We were able to cool it down by having the units in the other bedroom and main areas on.

  • Anna from Estonia – 1 December 2022 (8/10)

    Good location,

  • Ana from United States – 4 July 2022 (9/10)

    Host was easy to contact.

  • Yvonne from United Kingdom – 20 March 2025 (9/10)

The location and how quiet it was. The apartment was very comfortable and apart from only having 3 cups (we are big tea drinkers) it had everything we needed! Fantastic shower.

What could be improved: A few more cups but that really is a very minor issue.

  • Hoy from Canada – 12 May 2023 (6/10)

    very clean and comfortable

What could be improved: we had no control over the heat. was 18 degrees we were all cold. No hot water for showers first 2 days. No instructions on where hot water was to be turned on or wifi code was found in the bedroom behind the tv there should be a book about the house. my husband found the hot water controls behind a picture and we didn't figure it out until day 3 and finally could have hot showers

  • Gaetz from Canada – 19 May 2024 (6/10)

The location was fine as Venice is easy to walk around

What could be improved: I found the property had a mildew smell probably due to being so close to the canal.

  • Simona from Italy – 17 July 2023 (8/10)

La location era bella e molto in linea con i gusti e lo stile della città

What could be improved: Abbiamo avuto dei problemi con la serratura.
