It’s tucked right on Fondamenta Cannaregio, this quiet stretch along the Cannaregio Canal, just a short walk from the Santa Lucia train station. Honestly, if you’re arriving by train like I did, it’s a godsend – no hauling luggage over a dozen bridges, just a quick 10-minute stroll past those little bacari (you know, the local wine bars where Venetians grab cicchetti and spritz). The building itself has that classic Venetian vibe, all weathered brick and arched windows reflecting the water – and yeah, there’s a faint salty tang in the air from the canal, especially in the mornings when the delivery boats chug by. Check-in was a breeze; the staff – mostly locals, from what I could tell – were chatty without being overbearing, sorting out my room key in minutes while sharing tips on avoiding the tourist traps around the Jewish Ghetto, which is literally steps away. (Pro tip: Hit up the old bakery on Calle del Forno for some fresh zaleti cookies if you’re peckish.)

What really won me over, though, was how the place feels like a cozy hideaway in a city that can overwhelm you. It’s a solid 3-star spot with an 8.9 rating that actually lives up to it – rooms are compact, sure, like most in Venice (don’t expect sprawling suites), but mine had these high ceilings and a little balcony overlooking the canal, where I sipped coffee watching the world go by. The bed was comfy enough after a day of wandering, with crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender – a nice touch. Breakfast is included, nothing fancy, but the fresh pastries and cappuccino hit the spot, served in this sunny courtyard that stays quiet even during peak season (well, except for the occasional church bell from nearby San Geremia). Noise-wise, it’s peaceful at night – no rowdy groups like you’d get closer to the Rialto – though if you’re a light sleeper, the early morning boat traffic might nudge you awake. Oh, and the Wi-Fi’s reliable, which mattered when I was mapping out a detour to the less-visited islands like Burano. There’s no gym or spa, but who needs that when you’re steps from real walks along the fondamenta?

All in all, if you’re after an authentic slice of Venice without breaking the bank – think rates that won’t make you wince in shoulder season – the Leone is a smart pick. It’s got that lived-in charm that makes you feel like you’re staying with a friend rather than in some glossy chain. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for those lazy evenings wandering to a hidden osteria on Strada Nova. Just pack light, and maybe earplugs if you’re sensitive – but honestly, that’s Venice for you.

  The location was very convenient. It was close to the train station and easy to find! The room was very modern, and had everything I needed!

  Great location, only 10/15 walk from the bus terminal. The room was great, clean, more spacious than we were expecting, bathroom was nice and modern.

  The room is clean with basic supplies provided. Location is near to the train station which is want we wanted. Fair choices of restaurants nearby. Staff is nice.

  I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel, and I must say it was an exceptional experience.
  The room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped, with an incredibly comfortable bed. The daily housekeeping was thorough and discreet.
  What impressed me the most was the hotel staff – extremely helpful and always smiling. Any questions or minor issues were resolved quickly and with great care for our comfort. We truly felt well taken care of.
