Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Locanda Casa Querini almost by accident during my last trip to Venice – you know, one of those late-afternoon arrivals when the vaporetto from the airport drops you at San Zaccaria, and you’re weaving through the crowds near the Doge’s Palace, but then you veer left into Castello and everything quiets down. It’s tucked away on Campo San Giovanni Novo, this little square that’s honestly more like a neighborhood hangout than a tourist trap. No massive cruise ship groups here; instead, you’ll spot locals chatting over espresso at that tiny bar across the way, or kids kicking a ball around until dusk. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos – think faded pink plaster walls with wrought-iron balconies, and when you step inside, there’s this faint, comforting scent of old wood and fresh linens that hits you right away. Check-in was a breeze; the owner – Marco, I think his name was – greeted me like an old friend, handing over a massive key (you know, the kind that feels like it could unlock a treasure chest) and even sketching a quick map to the nearest vaporetto stop on the back of a napkin. No parking worries, obviously, since it’s Venice – everything’s on foot or by boat – but if you’re lugging bags, it’s just a 10-minute walk from the main piers, which is a godsend after a long flight.
What really sets this place apart, though, is how it feels like a slice of real Venetian life without skimping on the comforts. The rooms are cozy – mine overlooked the campo, with these tall shuttered windows that let in the morning light and the distant hum of church bells from Santa Maria Formosa nearby. It’s not huge, mind you; the bathroom was a bit snug, like squeezing into a galley kitchen, but spotless and with those thick, fluffy towels that make you forget the minor squeeze. Breakfast is served in this charming ground-floor room – fresh croissants, cappuccino strong enough to wake the dead, and honestly, the homemade jams were a highlight (try the apricot if they have it). I mean, it’s not a massive buffet, but that’s part of the charm; it’s intimate, and the staff chat about hidden spots like the quiet paths along Fondamenta Nuove for sunset views, away from the Rialto madness. Oh, and noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night – no rowdy bars blasting music, just the occasional lap of canal water if you’re near the back. During high season, like July, the area gets busier with day-trippers spilling over from San Marco, but by evening, it empties out, leaving you with that peaceful, almost secretive vibe. One tiny critique: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the upper rooms – sort of fades in and out like the tide – but hey, who needs it when you’re in Venice?
All in all, if you’re after an authentic stay that doesn’t feel like a cookie-cutter hotel chain, Locanda Casa Querini is it. It’s got that 4-star polish with a 9.1 rating that actually means something – earned from real travelers who appreciate the personal touches. You’ll walk out feeling like you’ve lived a little piece of the city, not just visited it. Book it for a romantic getaway or even solo; just remember to wander over to the nearby Libreria Acqua Alta bookstore for some quirky souvenirs – it’s only a short stroll away, and trust me, it’ll make your trip.

We traveled with a six year old boy and a 9 months old baby and we had a great stay there. Very clean, amazing rooms, friendly staff. Very nice.
What could be improved: It was cold during the night as the heating wasn’t turned on (on the 1st of November) and we couldn’t turned it on ourselves as it was stopped by the management. Which was a bit uncomfortable as we had a baby and and a small child.Colleen from United States – 7 October 2024 (10/10)
Everything! Cozy on a cute square close to everything. The owner was especially kind and helped me with so many logistics. I’d say this is a beautiful stay with a quaint local feel and not to be missed on your travels to Venice. Bellisimo!!

The location was great and the hosts were excellent at communication and answering any questions that we had. The place was very clean. Wonderful place.
What could be improved: Nothing that I would change.J from United States – 30 September 2024 (10/10)
Perfect location as it is very close to Venice’s main points of interest as well as plenty of reasonable restaurants.
What could be improved: As US travelers, we are not used to having mosquitoes around. But Venice is in a lagoon, so not much can be done about it. 🙂Elizaveta from Switzerland – 29 September 2024 (9/10)
Very nice hotel right in the center of Venice but in a very quiet small square hidden from all crowds. Very hospital and attentive staff. Really enjoyed our stay there. Highly recommend for a short trip to Venice for 1-2 guests.
