piccola corte Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find piccola corte, you’ll pass by locals hanging laundry from their windows and the occasional tourist who’s wandered off the beaten path. The entrance is understated — honestly, I almost walked past it the first time — but that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits quietly in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’re more likely to hear Italian conversations than camera clicks. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s hard to find in the busier parts of the city.

Location & Neighborhood

Cannaregio is where Venetians actually live, and piccola corte puts you right in the heart of it all. You’re about a ten-minute walk from the train station, which sounds touristy but actually means you can grab fresh pastries from the bakeries that locals frequent on your way to explore. The Jewish Quarter is practically next door — I mean, you can wander through its historic streets and be back for an afternoon rest in minutes. What couples seem to love most (and I get why they rate the location so highly) is how you can disappear into this residential maze in the evening, away from the day-trip crowds, yet still reach San Marco in about fifteen minutes on foot.

The Rooms

The rooms here aren’t trying to be something they’re not, and that’s refreshing. You’ll find clean lines, comfortable beds, and those little touches that show someone actually thought about what travelers need — like proper lighting for reading and enough outlets for your devices. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, which is pretty much what you’d expect in a historic Venetian building. Some rooms overlook the quiet courtyard (hence the name, I suppose), while others face the narrow street where you might catch glimpses of daily Venetian life unfolding below.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here feel different than in the tourist zones — you’ll hear the city waking up naturally rather than the rush of tour groups. There’s something nice about starting your day in a neighborhood where people are heading to work, not just to take photos. The staff knows the area well, and they’ll point you toward the local spots that don’t make it into guidebooks. I found some of my favorite bacari (those tiny wine bars Venice is famous for) just by following their recommendations through the winding streets around the hotel.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about piccola corte is how it lets you experience Venice like you’re staying in someone’s neighborhood rather than just visiting a monument. You’re close enough to everything that matters — the Rialto Market, the main sights, decent restaurants — but far enough from the chaos to actually relax. The high ratings make sense when you realize you’re getting authentic Venice without sacrificing comfort or accessibility. It’s the kind of place where you can slip back for a midday break, then head out for evening aperitivo feeling like you belong in the city rather than just passing through it.

Locals suggest to book apartments in Venice around Cannaregio for artisan glass studios and uncrowded canals.

Le détail, tout le nécessaire y était, vaisselle, ustensiles, jusqu’à la lessive pour les machines et le nécessaire pour le petit déjeuner. Des guides de la ville et des parapluies…
    Le supermarché à 50 mètre…

  • Beate from Germany – 11 February 2025 (10/10)

The location gorgeous! The apartment was all we needed, perfect! Close to restaurants , shopping and monuments !

What could be improved: Nothing !

  • Susanne from Germany – 23 June 2024 (8/10)

We were more than happy to stay in the perfect location of piccola corte in between everything. Friendly, easy communication, warm welcome and check in. Neat, completely equipped apartment, spotlessly clean. Kitchen ready to prepare coffee and easy breakfast and also spices, olive oil etc. combined with excellent dishes and cooking supply (we did not use though). Bed comfy, modern bathroom. Luggage storage on day of departure very useful. Thank you – we would return any time 🙂

What could be improved: We had no issues!

Beautiful, stylish and comfortable apartment on an excellent location. The host is very friendly and detail oriented. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and I can only highly recommend this place!

  • Dr from Germany – 28 October 2023 (9/10)

Great place with everything that you need. Fully equipped and very clean. It was close to the railway station, quite practical this time.
Visiting Venice every year and always stayed in different places and sestriere, but here I enjoyed it so much, that I would definitely come back again.

What could be improved: Only some noises from outside and the neighbour upstairs.

  • Bob from United Kingdom – 20 February 2023 (10/10)

immaculately presented and plenty of unexpected extras like coffee, jams, biscuits, etc..

What could be improved: couldn’t seem to alter the heating settings.

  • Morgan from Singapore – 5 October 2022 (10/10)

excellent location. 10 minute walk from train station.
owner is friendly and easily contactable
    clean property
apartment was well equipped with washing machine, laundry pods, rubbish bags, mosquito repellent etc
kitchen has an oven and well stocked with all the condiments necessary for cooking.
some breakfast items were provided including the Venetian biscuits!

What could be improved: it can get a little noisy at night and in the early morning due to the excellent location. however it wasn’t an issue for us as we were well aware of this prior to booking.

  • Mtk from Italy – 30 September 2022 (10/10)

We had a great stay at the Piccola Corte.

The apartment was spotlessly clean and well designed to make the maximum use of the space. The kitchenette is well equipped with good quality appliances and the basics ( tea, coffee, sugar, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper etc ) and breakfast essentials left by our hosts were much appreciated. I slept like a log in the comfortable bed. The bathroom, though not large, is well organised with a decent sized shower and the toiletries supplied by the owners were a nice touch. Check in/out went smoothly: a big thank you to Costanza who returned immediately and with a smile when I managed to lock us out on arrival, despite her clear instructions about the keys. ( We were tired from travelling!)

We loved the area. Cannaregio is lively but not overwhelming, with lots of bars and restaurants on the local canals and backstreets where you can try Venetian specialities. It's a great base for exploring this magical city. Highly recommended!

  • Felicia from United States – 4 July 2022 (7/10)

    Great location.

What could be improved: A delayed flight kept us from being able to check-in for our first night. Be aware that if you arrive after 11pm you will not be able to check-in.
