Residence Rio Marin Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow sotoportego to find Residence Rio Marin feels like discovering a secret — and honestly, that’s exactly what this three-star gem is. Tucked away in the Santa Croce district, it sits quietly along one of Venice’s lesser-known canals, where you’ll actually hear water lapping against stone instead of constant tourist chatter. The entrance is understated in that perfectly Venetian way, but once you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that you just don’t get at the hotels near San Marco.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about Santa Croce — it’s where real Venetians still live and work, but you’re never more than a 15-minute walk from the major sights. The Residence Rio Marin sits right in the sweet spot where couples consistently rate the location over 9 out of 10, and I can see why. You’ve got authentic bacari (those little wine bars locals actually frequent) within a few minutes’ walk, plus the Rialto Market is close enough for morning coffee runs. The train station is nearby too, which means you can actually manage your luggage without taking a water taxi — your wallet will thank you for that.
The Accommodation Experience
The rooms here feel more like staying in a Venetian friend’s apartment than a typical hotel, which is exactly the point of a residence-style property. Everything’s clean and well-maintained, with that sort of refined simplicity that works so well in Venice’s historic buildings. You’ll find thoughtful touches like proper storage space (rare in Venice, trust me) and windows that actually open to let in that canal breeze. The bathrooms are modern without feeling out of place, and honestly, after walking around Venice all day, having a quiet space to retreat to feels like such a gift.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here start gently — no bustling lobby scene or tour groups gathering at dawn. You can slip out early to have the bridges mostly to yourself, or sleep in and enjoy the fact that this corner of Santa Croce stays relatively peaceful even during peak season. The staff knows the neighborhood well, so they’ll point you toward the good gelato place (not the touristy one) and tell you which vaporetto stops to avoid during rush hour. It’s that kind of local insight that makes a difference when you’re trying to experience Venice like something more than a day-tripper.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to Residence Rio Marin is the combination of authentic location and genuine comfort — you’re staying in real Venice without sacrificing the amenities that make a trip enjoyable. Couples especially seem to appreciate having a peaceful base where they can plan their days without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by crowds. The excellent location score of 9.0 isn’t just a number — it reflects that perfect balance of being close enough to everything that matters while far enough from the chaos to actually relax. You know what? Sometimes the best Venice experience happens when you’re not trying so hard to have the best Venice experience.
Hotel in Venice reservations spike before Redentore fireworks when the lagoon fills with floating dinners.

Amazing location, beautifully clean ! Helpful staff , perfect for a few days away , plus they allowed us to leave our bags at the room as soon as we arrived so a massive bonus
What could be improved: As the mezzanine was open one side you could hear the room below but it wasn’t an issue really, some may not like this , same there’s nowhere to leave back when you leaveShiming from Netherlands – 5 November 2024 (8/10)
close to train and bus station.
What could be improved: bathroom door cannot close properly. mosquitoes (asked for repellent but never got any) that seriously affect sleep. the loft is also not really separated from the bottom sleeping room ( so the noise in sleep room can be all heard in life)Justyna from Poland – 3 October 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Room was not made up/cleaned prior to arrival. We were a little early but by the time the cleaner was finished we were 2+ hrs over the agreed check in time so not a great start to our stay.
