San Leonardo 2 Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Calle dei Colori in Cannaregio, you might almost miss San Leonardo 2 if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits quietly in one of Venice‘s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll hear more Italian than English echoing off the canal walls. The entrance is understated in that perfectly Venetian way, but step inside and you immediately get the sense that someone actually cares about this place.
The Cannaregio Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in this part of Venice — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from San Marco’s tourist chaos to actually breathe. The location score of 9.4 isn’t just marketing fluff; couples consistently rate it 9.3 because you can wander to the Rialto in about ten minutes, yet come home to streets where locals still hang their laundry and kids play football against ancient walls. There’s a fantastic bacaro just around the corner where the cicchetti are ridiculously good, and the morning walk to grab coffee feels like you’re discovering secret Venice.
Your Space
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully arranged — you know how Venetian buildings can be quirky with their layouts, but they’ve made smart use of every inch here. The bed was comfortable enough that I actually slept well despite the occasional water taxi rumbling by at dawn (bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper, trust me). What struck me most was how clean everything felt, and the bathroom, while not huge, had decent water pressure — something you definitely can’t take for granted in Venice’s older buildings.
The Neighborhood Experience
Cannaregio gives you the real Venice experience without feeling like you’re performing tourism every time you step outside. I’d walk out in the morning and see the same shopkeeper opening his shutters, the same elderly woman feeding cats by the canal. The area comes alive differently than the main tourist zones — it’s more about daily rhythms than photo opportunities. You’re also perfectly positioned to explore the Jewish Quarter, which honestly doesn’t get nearly the attention it deserves, and the walk along Fondamenta delle Zattere at sunset is something I still think about.
Why Guests Love It
San Leonardo 2 works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, well-maintained place to sleep in an excellent location, run by people who seem to understand what travelers actually need. The 8.5 rating reflects exactly that — guests aren’t blown away by fancy amenities, but they’re consistently satisfied with the experience. For the price point, you’re getting authentic Venice access without the premium you’d pay closer to the main attractions. I mean, when couples are rating the location 9.3, that tells you something about how this neighborhood makes people feel about their Venice experience.
Venice’s apartments welcome families with vaporetto passes, kitchenettes for market hauls, and bridges leading to Lido playgrounds.

Reviews of San Leonardo 2
Malgorzata from Poland – 30 March 2025 (8/10)
Urzekło mnie wspaniałe położenie i klimat obiektu. Wiekowa kamienica, dobrze wyposażone wnętrze. Pobyt tam uważam za bardzo udany, choć trudno było przegapić kurz w kątach podłogi i na mebli.
What could be improved: Niedokładne odkurzanie.Carlos from Spain – 24 March 2025 (9/10)
Fácil de llegar. Sitio muy acogedor y amplio. Recomendado!!
Dennis from Ukraine – 14 March 2025 (9/10)
Great location
What could be improved: bed is not for 2 people its 2 separate beds merged together forming 1 big bed but as result it has gap in between
mattress was not good as wellSyed from France – 4 March 2025 (9/10)
Easy to find, brilliant location, clean and comfortable.
Sam from United Kingdom – 19 February 2025 (8/10)
Lovely spacious place nestled in a quiet spot of Venice, but also right by the main walkways to get about quickly. Everything you'd need for a short stay and the views of the canal were great!
What could be improved: The caveat of having the great view was being on the top floor, which wasn't clear to us as we spent 15 minutes figuring that out the hard way! The stairs aren't the nicest of things so I wouldn't say it's very accessible. (I'm in my 20's so going up and down 4 flights of stairs didn't bother me much).
The flickering lights in the apartment had me feeling like I was in a nightclub at times – the dimmer seemed to bug out quite a bit, but again, not too big an issue.
I found an Iron, but to my knowledge, no ironing board, unless I missed this.
Realised that the bed was 2 single beds together and, at times, decided to move apart trying to eat you.Maryna from Poland – 8 February 2025 (9/10)
Расположение, чистота, цена-качество!
What could be improved: Не было микроволновой печи.. это минус для туристов! Отсутствовали какие-либо полотенца, тряпочки, салфетки.. на кухне, это очень неудобно для поддержания чистоты. Хотелось бы большего выбора ножей и досточку для нарезки ножом .. в остальном – все было чудесно!!!Manoj from India – 2 February 2025 (8/10)
The apartment is spacious and has all the amenities except the washing machine.
What could be improved: You have to climb 4 floors of steep stairs.Pacale from France – 28 January 2025 (9/10)
très bon emplacement, proche de toutes les commodités
Cecile from United Kingdom – 25 November 2024 (9/10)
The location was very easy to find, well located, clean and everything worked perfectly
What could be improved: A little smell coming from the bathroom that was not really nice and the stair case could be a bit cleaner. Maybe also a more cosy lamp in the living could be nicer.Meenakshisundaram from India – 4 October 2024 (8/10)
Beautiful Apartment and fully loaded kitchen
What could be improved: No response for messages sent to Mario. Follow up was required. Impolite language used. They can show more courtesy and help to guests.
