Sweet Suite Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle Seconda de la Fava in the Castello district, you might almost miss Sweet Suite if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique property sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll hear more Italian than tourist chatter echoing off the canal walls. The entrance is understated in that perfectly Venetian way, but once you step inside, there’s something immediately welcoming about the place that makes you exhale and think, “okay, this feels right.”

Location Magic

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re actually in Venice, not just visiting it. The Castello area is where real Venetians still live and work, which means you’ll stumble upon neighborhood bakeries and tiny wine bars that haven’t been completely overrun by tour groups. It’s about a 10-minute walk to St. Mark’s Square, but honestly, you’ll probably find yourself lingering in the quieter campos nearby. Couples seem to get this location particularly well (they rate it 8.5, which makes total sense), because there’s something romantic about discovering Venice’s hidden corners together rather than fighting crowds at the main attractions.

The Sweet Suite Experience

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — you know how some small spaces feel cramped while others feel cozy? This definitely falls into the cozy category. The decor strikes that tricky balance between Venetian character and modern comfort, with original details that remind you where you are without feeling like a theme park. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for Venice standards, and the bed was actually comfortable (which, let me tell you, isn’t always a given in historic buildings). What really impressed me was how quiet everything was at night — the thick walls of these old palazzos really do their job.

Neighborhood Discoveries

One morning I wandered out early and found this incredible little restaurant just two streets over where the owner’s grandmother was still making pasta by hand in the window. That’s the kind of thing that happens when you stay in Castello — you’re close enough to everything important but far enough from the madness to actually experience Venice as a living city. The nearby Giardini area has this lovely waterfront walk that most tourists never find, and there’s a fantastic wine bar called Osteria alle Testiere that locals actually frequent (though you’ll need a reservation).

Why Guests Love It

Sweet Suite isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in Venice, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you navigate the city — they gave me directions to places I never would have found otherwise and steered me away from the obvious tourist traps. The 7.3 rating might not scream “perfection,” but it reflects something more valuable: honest, solid hospitality in a city where that’s becoming increasingly rare. For the price point and location, you’re getting authentic Venice access without the premium that comes with staying right on the Grand Canal — and honestly, you’ll probably have a better time for it.

Hotels near me in Venice offer water taxi moorings, Basilica queues, and gondola lessons steps away.

Reviews of Sweet Suite

  • Donata from Lithuania – 1 December 2024 (8/10)

    good location, kitchen.

What could be improved: was little bit complicated to find a property.

  • Janet from United States – 6 October 2024 (8/10)

It was nice/comfortable, close vicinity to everything and a local grocery market was just steps away.

What could be improved: It could use a bit of updating and decor. Did not match photos. Appears window curtains were changed and less appealing than displayed in photos. It didn’t have storage space in shower or in bathroom for toiletries.

  • Mario from Costa Rica – 28 August 2024 (8/10)

The apartment was very clean and near of our activities. So nice. The apartment has everything to cook, the bathroom is big, clean. And the weather was good.
    I recommend.

What could be improved: Nothing. Everything was fine

  • Claudia from New Zealand – 17 September 2023 (7/10)

The place was very spacious and comfortable with a full kitchen. Very large shower.

What could be improved: The wifi did not appear to be working during our stay. The owner asked us to remove the rubbish however when we contacted him about the wifi and where to leave the rubbish we had no response.

  • Anne from South Africa – 5 September 2023 (8/10)

The location was amazing. We could walk or take the vaporetti everywhere. Google maps and a sim is essential.
The apartment was neat, clean and sufficient for us. Our host sent us a video clip of how to enter, and communicated with us.

What could be improved: No kettle to make tea.

  • Craig from Australia – 1 September 2023 (6/10)

    Spacious
Good location away from the really busy areas.
    Handy supermarket close by.
Landlord responded promptly when we accidentally turned the hot water off.

What could be improved: The wifi didn’t work at all and when I asked about it, there was no response. The landlord ignored that one.
But I was contacted immediately when he realised that I hadn’t paid the city tax.
    TV reception was also poor.

  • Kate from New Zealand – 14 August 2023 (8/10)

    very good location

  • Michael from United States – 28 July 2023 (6/10)

We liked the size of the apartment. The bathroom was well equipped and clean. The kitchen had a table/chairs, fridge, range, a modicum of kitchen utensils, and dishes. There was a fan, and you could safely get enough ventilation to pass a comfortable night. It gave a real living experience in Venice. There was internet as well.

What could be improved: The location was a little more out of the way than most lodging and proximity to the active areas of Venice. We didn't get enough instruction for the internet, but we eventually figured it out. We couldn't get the oven to work. The owner never offered help operating the internet or the oven. We were told NOT to leave trash bag in the apt, but we were not told what to do with it. We were asked to leave 4 euros/per day for tourist tax! Why wasn't that included in the whole price?
As for the dishes, glasses, pans, etc. they weren't very clean. We washed wverytbing before using them. And there was a good layer of dirt and dust in places. There was no broom to sweep with either.

  • Zhansaya from Kazakhstan – 30 June 2023 (8/10)

The room is very large, clean and nice. We did like the location, it is in the center and close to everything.

What could be improved: The address indicated in the booking is not correct, or it showed totally different street on the Google maps, but if you look for it on the map on booking it leads you to the right place

  • Βαρβη from Cyprus – 15 June 2023 (8/10)

    What could be improved: Noisy
