Al Canal Regio – Guest House Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find Al Canal Regio – Guest House, you’ll probably pass it once before realizing you’ve arrived — it blends seamlessly into the residential fabric of this authentic Venetian neighborhood. This three-star guest house sits tucked away from the tourist crowds, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. The building itself has that weathered charm you expect in Venice, with traditional Venetian architecture that feels genuinely local rather than touristy.
The Cannaregio Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in this area — you’re actually living like a Venetian for a few days. Cannaregio is where locals do their shopping, grab their morning coffee, and go about their daily lives without dodging selfie sticks every few steps. The guest house sits in what’s consistently rated as one of Venice’s top neighborhoods, and after spending time here, I can see why couples give the location a 9.3 rating. You can walk to San Marco in about 15 minutes, but you’ll also discover the Jewish Quarter nearby, plus some incredible bacari (wine bars) that most tourists never find.
Your Room and Space
The accommodations here feel more like staying in a well-appointed Venetian home than a typical hotel room. Each space has been thoughtfully designed with traditional Venetian elements — think exposed beams, terrazzo floors, and windows that actually open to let in that distinctive lagoon breeze. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Venice, after all), but they’re efficiently laid out and surprisingly quiet given how central you are. What really impressed me was the attention to detail in the furnishings — everything feels authentic rather than mass-produced.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here strikes a nice balance between Italian tradition and international expectations. They offer a continental spread alongside proper Italian options, served buffet-style so you can take your time. The Italian coffee is excellent — which matters more than you might think when you’re planning long days of walking on cobblestones. I actually found myself looking forward to the morning ritual of sitting with my cappuccino, planning the day’s route through the city’s maze of canals and bridges.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to Al Canal Regio isn’t flashy amenities or over-the-top service — it’s the authentic Venice experience you get by staying in a real neighborhood. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the chaos to actually enjoy your evenings. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward experiences that feel local rather than touristy. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about returning each evening to this quiet corner of Cannaregio, knowing you’ve found a little slice of authentic Venetian life that most visitors never discover.
Early hotels booking in Venice secures balcony seats for Vogalonga regattas and torchlit basilica tours.

Adrian from United Kingdom – 30 June 2024 (8/10)
A fairly basic room but perfectly adequate as a base for exploring Venice.
Friendly staff.
Very convenient for easy access to all the sights.
Breakfast on the first day was excellent however the second day the croissant and breads were quite stale.
We would stay there again.Pietsch from Australia – 27 June 2024 (9/10)
Good location comfortable beds
What could be improved: Air conditioning was very lowJames from United States – 2 October 2023 (9/10)
Location was nice near San Marco and a Water Taxi stop. Also near a main street with lots of shops and restaurants. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful.
What could be improved: We had to find a room last minute because our flights were cancelled back to the USA. Prices were elevated for last minute bookings for a Friday and Saturday night. But, this hotel offered the most reasonable prices for a last minute stay, was conviently located and took good care of us.Tracie from Australia – 11 July 2023 (8/10)
The location was fantastic and was easy to find
What could be improved: The property was just fine for what we neededCristiane from Italy – 30 June 2023 (9/10)

Anna from United Kingdom – 23 June 2023 (8/10)
The bathroom was immaculate and newly done and the same for the room. No TV which is such a blessing. The location was great with a supermarket just round the corner and a American star restaurant with a lovely roof terrace overlooking the canal. We had a room right on the canal which, although very noisy if the windows are open was perfectly quiet when they were shut. Bed was fantasticly comfy.
What could be improved: We had a minor issue with plumbing with bathroom sink being full of water due to plug not coming out, but the girl on reception resolved this while we were out so no big deal. My main reservation was that we booked an apartment which was supposed to have a separate living room and sofa bed, but we were not given this. We were given a double room. Since the room was on the canal and much nicer than the so called apartment they offered instead, we accepted that, but still I felt I was paying for something that I didn’t get, but I can’t fault the room that we did have it was lovelyAntonella from Netherlands – 11 June 2023 (7/10)
The location was perfect half way between San Marco and the station. Many bars and restaurants in the area.
Room was basic but clean.
What could be improved: It is a bit difficult to find and there is no reception. I did not know this when I booked my stay.Millie from United Kingdom – 3 January 2023 (8/10)
Amazing location! (although maybe tricky to find as it sits in a courtyard)
Comfortable beds and good value compared to other hotels in the area
What could be improved: confusing check in/check out but this wasn’t an issue at all!Fani from Germany – 3 May 2022 (9/10)
Large room, good location, reasonable price
What could be improved: Poor breakfast
