Ca’ Dei Leoni Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Ca’ Dei Leoni in the heart of Cannaregio, you immediately get that authentic Venetian feeling — this isn’t some touristy hotel trying too hard to impress. The building itself has that weathered elegance you see throughout Venice, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re staying in a city this historic. It’s a three-star property, which means you’re getting solid comfort without the pretentious frills that can sometimes feel out of place in Venice’s narrow canals and ancient streets.

The Cannaregio Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — Cannaregio is where you actually get to live like a Venetian for a few days. You’re away from the crushing crowds around San Marco, but you can still walk there in about fifteen minutes when you want to see the big sights. The neighborhood has these wonderful little bacari (that’s what locals call their wine bars) where you can grab cicchetti and a glass of wine without fighting through tour groups. I mean, you’re literally in the best-rated area of Venice according to most travelers, and couples especially seem to fall for this district — they rate the location a solid 9.0, which honestly doesn’t surprise me at all.

Your Room and Comfort

The room I stayed in had that perfect balance of Venetian character and modern comfort — you know, old wooden beams overhead but a bathroom that actually works properly. The windows open onto either the canal or the quiet courtyard, and there’s something magical about waking up to the sound of water lapping against stone instead of traffic noise. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in historic buildings), and the air conditioning works well during those sticky summer months when Venice can feel like a beautiful sauna.

Getting Around and Daily Life

What really sold me on this spot was how easy everything became once I settled in. The Guglie vaporetto stop is just a few minutes’ walk away, so you can hop on a water bus and be at the train station, Rialto, or anywhere else you need to go. But honestly, some of my best Venice moments happened just wandering the Cannaregio streets — stumbling across the Jewish Quarter, finding that perfect little osteria for dinner, or discovering a tiny campo where kids were playing football while their grandparents watched from café chairs.

Why Guests Love It

The 8.9 location score isn’t just numbers on a website — it reflects something real about how this place lets you experience Venice. You’re staying somewhere that feels authentically Venetian without sacrificing the comfort you need after long days of walking on stone streets and crossing countless bridges. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward experiences you won’t find in guidebooks. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you’ve found your little corner of Venice, and leaving feels like saying goodbye to a temporary home rather than just checking out of another hotel.

Venice hotels keep guests near Rialto markets, hidden cicchetti bars, and vaporetto docks.

Reviews of Ca’ Dei Leoni

  • Minh from Hungary – 16 March 2025 (8/10)

Nice staffs and the atmosphere it gives

What could be improved: The floor is sticky in many places. Blankets do not feel clean to me as there is no proper duvet cover.

  • Işıl from Turkey – 9 March 2025 (9/10)

Team was very helpful and friendly.

  • Devraj from Switzerland – 25 February 2025 (9/10)

Nicoló, the host was superb. Very cordial and very informative. Ask him stuffs properly and he is the best guide possible for Venice. Be it service in hotel or places for kids he is the man.

What could be improved: Location is bit inside and Google Maps does not navigate properly. Nicoló came to pick us up.

  • Nigel from United Kingdom – 7 February 2025 (9/10)

Authentic; good interior design; friendly reception

What could be improved: Quite hard to find: in Canareggio, so not particularly central (40 minute walk to San Marco)

  • Colin from Australia – 20 December 2024 (9/10)

Great value, exceptionally helpful staff, very clean and comfortable facilities.

  • Victor from Australia – 18 November 2024 (8/10)

It had an authentic feel and the staff were very friendly and even offered room service to save us from having breakfast in the garden on a cold day but it was so different we decided to brave the cold like the other guests. Their english is very good and they are very helpful with information on Venice.

What could be improved: Everything was fine for us but this is not for someone wanting a glitzy modern appointments but for someone wanting a genuine historical feel.

  • Ales from Czech Republic – 8 November 2024 (9/10)

Nice spot nor far from center

What could be improved: Nice staff

  • Dennis from Australia – 19 October 2024 (9/10)

    Exceptionally helpful staff

  • Jennifer from United Kingdom – 19 October 2024 (8/10)

The location was perfect – a quiet peaceful corner of the city away from all the tourists. The room was comfortable and very historic. I enjoyed breakfast on the veranda every morning and the staff were very friendly with us. I highly recommend staying here.

What could be improved: The room was a little small but not a major problem. Breakfast is the same for everyone apart from the drinks, so if you like jam and croissants that's fine but apart from that there's not really much choice. Also the pigeons descend for your breakfast in the masses, I adore pigeons so this didn't bother me but it may do for other people.

  • Rodvel from United States – 25 June 2023 (8/10)

    The customer service was excellent

What could be improved: Everything was to our satisfaction
