Hotel Description
You know, stumbling upon Ca’ del Cinema B&B in Venice’s Castello neighborhood felt like one of those lucky finds that make a trip memorable – I mean, I was wandering off the beaten path after getting lost near the Arsenale vaporetto stop, and there it was, tucked away on a quiet side canal just a stone’s throw from Via Garibaldi. It’s not in the super-touristy San Marco crush, which is a relief if you’ve ever dealt with the summer crowds swarming around St. Mark’s Square (honestly, it can feel like a human pinball machine there). This place is more for folks who want to dip into real Venetian life – think locals chatting over spritz at the corner bars, or the smell of fresh bread wafting from that little bakery on Campo San Isepo in the mornings. I arrived late afternoon, lugging my bag from the train station (pro tip: take the No. 1 vaporetto to Arsenale and walk the five minutes; taxis are a rip-off in high season), and the check-in was a breeze – the owner, this chatty guy named Marco, greeted me with a genuine smile and a quick espresso, no fuss about my slightly delayed arrival. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos, with creaky wooden floors that sort of whisper history underfoot, and yeah, it’s named after cinema because they’ve got these quirky film posters scattered around – nothing over-the-top, just a fun nod that makes you smile.
What really sold me on Ca’ del Cinema, though, was how it balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling. My room overlooked a narrow rio – you could hear the gentle lap of water against the stones at night, which is way more soothing than the distant boat horns you get in busier spots. It was spotless, with a comfy queen bed (sheets felt like they were ironed by angels) and a modern bathroom that didn’t skimp on hot water – a godsend after a day pounding the pavements. Breakfast is served in this cozy communal area downstairs, nothing fancy but solid: fresh croissants, yogurt, and those tiny cups of strong coffee that wake you right up. I appreciated the little touches, like the free Wi-Fi that actually works (unlike some spots in Venice where it’s spotty due to all the thick stone walls), and they even have a small library of books and DVDs if you’re in for a quiet evening – perfect during those rainy off-season days in winter when the fog rolls in and the city quiets down. Oh, and noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful here; Castello isn’t party central, so you won’t hear rowdy groups stumbling home at 2 a.m., though you might catch the occasional church bell from nearby San Pietro di Castello, which adds to the atmosphere without being annoying.
All in all, if you’re heading to Venice and want something authentic without the inflated prices of the Grand Canal hotels, this B&B is a winner – it’s got that 9-out-of-10 rating for a reason, you know? Sure, there’s no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing (I learned that the hard way hauling my suitcase up two flights), and parking isn’t even an option since, well, it’s Venice – leave the car in Mestre and ferry over. But honestly, staying here made me feel like I was living in the city rather than just visiting; I’d grab a gelato from that stand on Via Garibaldi in the evenings and watch the world go by. If you’re into the Biennale art scene (it’s super close, like a 10-minute stroll to the gardens), or just want a base to explore underrated spots like the hidden cloisters around here, book it. You’ll thank me later – or at least, that’s what I told my friends when I got back.

Great location, clean and cozy. Nicole gave us direction for how to get to the property and also advised the best route to get to the airport. Definitely the best place to stay in Venice.

The room was very good, it was a smaller room (Elisabeth Taylor picture) but it had everything you needed except for a wardrobe to hang clothes in. There was a wardrobe but it had shelves so you had to hang clothes on hooks on the wall by the bathroom. There was only one electric point also, So you had to take out the mosquito electric appliance if you wanted to charge any appliances. Other than that the stay was lovely. They left bottles of water and plate of biscuits each day. You could also help yourself to tea & coffee which was located on the sideboard in the reception area. Another good thing was you could sit outside on the balcony, or the lower area to drink, eat or smoke. I would very much recommend this accommodation, except for the items I've mentioned, If it had those I would have given it excellent overall. They are very welcoming, they contact you to give her advice before you arrive and advise which boat to catch and get off. They leave you alone the rest of the time to enjoy yourself. Which we did. Thank you Nicole and family.
What could be improved: No wardrobe to hang coats, trousers etc
Only one electric socketRose from Australia – 15 March 2025 (9/10)
The staff was very friendly and helpful
What could be improved: Was a bit away from the main Rail station.Rachel from New Zealand – 23 October 2024 (9/10)
The B&B was really lovely. Great communication with staff and very clear instructions as to how to get to the accommodation. The staff were just so lovely and welcoming!! The breakfast was delicious and one of our group was gluten free and she was catered for really well. The accommodation was warm, quiet and spacious and the beds were comfy. It was lovely to have the shared lounge area to make tea and coffee in and relax in. We also loved the hotel cat!
What could be improved: It was a bit out of the main centre of Venice which did mean it was lovely and quiet but also meant it took about 10 minutes walk to get into the main area of Venice. Not really a problem just something to consider.Veronica from United States – 20 October 2024 (9/10)
Great location, impeccable service.
What could be improved: I liked everything, the steps are steep but i guess is part of the charmJoanne from United Kingdom – 29 September 2024 (9/10)
We have stayed here before but not for a few years. The B&B is away from the tourist parts of Venice but only 10 minutes walk from the waterfront. There is a supermarket 3 minutes walk away, and the addition of a small fridge in the room meant we could keep drinks and small snacks cold. The room was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was optional but we chose to have this everyday and Monica who made this for us did a brilliant job.
What could be improved: There is nothing I don’t like.Alexis from Ireland – 20 September 2024 (9/10)
Nicole was so nice and answered any questions we had. It was a very nice room with a super comfy bed and a lovely air conditioner to come back to after being out long in the heat!
Roger from United Kingdom – 14 September 2024 (9/10)
Located in a quiet and historical part of Venice. We felt very safe there even when walking around at night. Within about 20 minutes walk of the busier areas of Venice but there were bars and restaurants very close. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Room was kept spotless with daily housekeeping and the bed was very comfortable. Lovely lounge area if you didn't want to sit in your bedroom. Within 5-10 minute walk of 2 vaporetto stops and the Alilaguna boat to the airport. The weekly transport ticket was good value for money as we used the vaporetto several times each day. Also valid on the buses on the Lido. Good communication from the owners via Whatsapp.
What could be improved: The only slight negative is that the property is on the first floor. As it is a very old building there is no way a lift could be installed, so you just accept that you have a flight of stairs to climb when you get back each day.Axel from Iceland – 11 August 2024 (9/10)
It was like coming home! We were greeted by the hosts son who was courteous and nice. The lovely lady who took care of our breakfast out on the balcony was so attentive and sweet. Our suite was spaceous and clean, the beds were very comfortable. An excellent stay at a lovely family run guesthouse!
What could be improved: We loved the quiet neighbourhood, 15 minutes walk from the busy tourist attractions but some might find it a little out of the way. There is a stairway up to the guesthouse and obviously no elevator so keep that in mind if you are travelling with heavy pieces of luggage.Zhiying from Singapore – 9 June 2024 (9/10)
