Ca’ del Squero vicino alla Salute Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Ca’ del Squero vicino alla Salute, you immediately get that “I found something special” feeling. This three-star gem sits right in Dorsoduro — honestly one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods — and the building itself has that weathered Venetian charm that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard. The name literally references the nearby squero (that’s a traditional gondola workshop, by the way), and you can actually see artisans working on gondolas just steps away. It’s the kind of detail that makes Venice feel real rather than just touristy.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re practically next door to the Basilica della Salute, which means incredible views and photo ops, but you’re also in Dorsoduro where actual Venetians live and work. The location score of 9.6 isn’t just marketing fluff; couples especially seem to get it, rating the area 9.0 for romantic getaways. You can walk to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in about three minutes, catch a vaporetto at Salute stop right there, or just wander the quiet campos that most tourists never find. The Zattere promenade is close too — perfect for those sunset aperitivo moments.

The Accommodation Experience

Ca’ del Squero vicino alla Salute keeps things authentic without sacrificing comfort. The rooms have that Venetian residential feel — think original beams, traditional furnishings, and windows that actually open to let in the lagoon breeze. You’re not getting five-star upscale here, but honestly, that’s not the point. What you get is character, cleanliness, and the sense that you’re staying in someone’s carefully restored Venetian home rather than a generic hotel. The bathrooms are modern enough, and the beds are comfortable — which, after a day of walking on stone streets, is what really matters.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here feel different than in the touristy areas. You’ll hear church bells from the Salute, maybe some gondola builders starting their work, but not the chaos of cruise ship crowds. There’s a great bacaro (wine bar) literally around the corner where locals grab their morning coffee, and the small campo nearby has a fruit vendor most days. Evenings are magical — the light hits the canal just right, and you can walk to dinner without fighting through St. Mark’s Square madness. I mean, you’re still in Venice so it’s not exactly quiet, but it’s Venice at a human scale.

Why Guests Love It

People keep coming back to this place because it strikes that perfect balance between location and authenticity. You’re close enough to everything that matters — the Doge’s Palace is maybe a 15-minute walk — but far enough from the main tourist streams to feel like you’ve discovered something. The 9.0 rating reflects what you actually experience: a well-run, characterful place in one of Venice’s most photogenic corners. Plus, staying near a working squero means you get to witness a piece of Venetian craftsmanship that’s been happening for centuries. It’s those little authentic touches that turn a good trip into an unforgettable one.

Reviews of Ca’ del Squero vicino alla Salute

  • Amy from United Kingdom – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

The location was amazing – tucked away in a quiet street, only a few steps from the shore, with 2 vaporetto stops nearby, and just 10 minutes walk into the heart of Venice. The views are lovely! The apartment is beautifully furnished, very comfortable, with all the facilities we needed. Our hosts were very helpful and responded to queries quickly.

What could be improved: We were travelling with only a little luggage, but the steep and narrow stairs would be challenging with large cases.

  • Anne from Ireland – 23 September 2024 (9/10)

This apartment has lots of character in a great part of Venice away from throngs of tourists. The host was very helpful and responded at all stages. Thank you. Would recommend.

Apartment was immaculate, & so uniquely Venetian to stay in (which is exactly what we wanted!). You certainly get a work out climbing the stairs, but it is such a lovely & carefully curated space that it was a joy to stay in.
Location is wonderful, Dorsoduro is a quieter district, away from the hustle & bustle, with wonderful restaurants & bars still very close.

What could be improved: Nothing. The apartment is exactly as it is described in the listing, there was no surprise or let down.

This was a wonderful place to stay – easy to get to, quiet, but only one stop on the vaporetto away from Saint Mark's Square and the heart of Venice. The apartment was comfortable and had everything needed to make this a wonderful stay, and our host was super responsive and friendly. We would definitely stay there again!
