Hotel Description
I remember stumbling off the vaporetto at Arsenale – you know, that stop that’s not as jammed as San Marco but still drops you right into the heart of Castello – and weaving through those narrow calles with my suitcase clattering on the uneven stones. Hotel Nuovo Teson is tucked away on Calle Pescaria, just a stone’s throw from the lagoon, and honestly, it felt like finding a quiet corner in Venice’s chaos. I arrived mid-afternoon in late spring, when the tourists start thinning out after lunch, and the check-in was a breeze – no long lines, just a friendly older guy at the desk who chatted about the best route to avoid the crowds heading to the Biennale gardens. The lobby’s nothing flashy, sort of old-school Venetian with tiled floors that echo a bit and that faint, salty canal smell wafting in, but it sets the tone: comfortable, unpretentious, like staying at a local’s place rather than some glossy chain.
The rooms – well, mine was on the second floor, overlooking a skinny side canal where you could hear the occasional gondola splashing by in the mornings. It’s a solid 3-star setup, with clean, compact spaces that don’t try to be more than they are; the bed was firm but cozy, and there’s air conditioning that actually works (a godsend in humid Venetian summers, I mean, you don’t want to wake up sticky). Breakfast is included, and it’s the real deal – fresh croissants, strong espresso, and those little yogurts that taste like they’re from a neighborhood pasticceria, served in a sunny room that looks out onto the calle. I appreciated the practical bits, like the free Wi-Fi that didn’t glitch out, and how quiet it gets at night despite being walking distance from Riva degli Schiavoni – no blaring boat horns or party noise, just the soft lap of water if you crack the window. That said, the bathroom was a tad small, with one of those European showers that flood if you’re not careful, but hey, it’s Venice; space is at a premium everywhere. And parking? Forget it – this is car-free territory, so pack light and embrace the walk from the station or ferry.
What really sold me on Nuovo Teson, though, is how it plugs you into the authentic side of Venice without the San Marco price tag. You’re steps from hidden spots like the Libreria Acqua Alta bookstore – that quirky place with books stacked in bathtubs – or you can wander to the Arsenale for a glimpse of naval history without the hordes. It’s rated an 8.4 for good reason: value for money, especially off-season when rates dip and the area feels like yours alone. If you’re after a no-fuss base to explore Castello’s quieter vibe – think local cicchetti bars on Via Garibaldi or sunset strolls along the lagoon – this is it. Sure, it’s not luxurious, but that’s the charm; it lets Venice shine without distractions. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in fall when the fog rolls in and everything feels even more magical.

Excellent location, very helpful staff, & extremely well designed room with mini shower and bathroom as room extensions that work well, but with little privacy
What could be improved: All was fine.Neda from Serbia – 19 March 2025 (9/10)
Very polite service. Very near to the Arsenale boat station to Airport (like 3min walk) and so close to the city. It was great experience and we would recomend it!!! ❤️

Wonderful Stay in Venice!
Had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making our visit even more enjoyable. The breakfast was delicious, with a great variety of options to start the day right. The location was absolutely excellent, perfect for exploring Venice.
A special thanks to Rado at the front desk for his warm hospitality and assistance, and to Victoria at breakfast for her wonderful service. Highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return!Maggie from United Kingdom – 6 March 2025 (8/10)
Excellent location. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were very nice and , for an economy double, quite spacious.
What could be improved: Would be helpful to have some hooks for coats and some hooks in the bathroom. It would also have been nice to have had some milk to go with the tea/coffee facilities and to have items replenished (no further coffee/ tea or ‘spoons’ were provided).Anna from United Kingdom – 4 March 2025 (9/10)
Location was excellent, reception were friendly and helpful and delightful to deal with. Breakfast was lots of choice & tasty when busy was a little hectic but that didn’t phase us as felt welcome.
Really lovely little hotel and would stay again.
What could be improved: The only one thing was the shower was a little narrow and if you were a larger person would have been awkward… again would not stop us staying but something to consider.Gabriella from Hungary – 21 February 2025 (7/10)
Perfect location, nice staff, this was our 3rd time in this hotel and we will come back for sure
What could be improved: The room had the smallest shower in the entire world 🙂Sebastian from United Kingdom – 11 February 2025 (9/10)
very clean room, very friendly staff, excellent location very close to Piazza San Marco. Room although a bit small, was very cozy, clean and beautiful. We will come back with pleasure! We would like to give a special thanks to the cleaning lady; she cleaned the room every day and paid great attention to detail. Thank you!
What could be improved: I don’t think we can say that there was anything we didn’t like. The room was indeed small, but as we mentioned, it was beautiful and clean. It was enough for us.Catherine from United Kingdom – 24 December 2024 (9/10)
