San Marco Suite by Bricola Apartments Overview

First Impressions

Walking down the narrow Calle dei Corazzari in Castello, you might almost miss San Marco Suite by Bricola Apartments — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll hear more Italian than English echoing off the ancient walls. The entrance feels refreshingly understated compared to some of the flashier hotels near the main tourist drags, which I actually appreciated after a long day of travel.

The Castello Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in Castello — you’re close enough to San Marco to walk there in about ten minutes, but far enough away that you can actually breathe. The area around the apartment has this wonderful mix of local cafes where Venetians grab their morning espresso and tiny shops that have been family-run for generations. You know what really struck me? In the evenings, when the day-trippers head back to the mainland, this neighborhood transforms into something genuinely peaceful. The location score of 9.5 makes perfect sense when you experience it firsthand.

Your Home Base

The suite itself feels more like staying in a Venetian friend’s place than a typical hotel room. There’s a proper kitchen setup that actually works — I mean, you can cook a real meal here if you want to save some euros or just enjoy those amazing ingredients from the Rialto market. The space has character without trying too hard, with those wonderfully uneven floors that remind you you’re sleeping in a building that’s probably older than your home country. The furnishings strike that sweet spot between authentic Venetian style and modern comfort.

Getting Around

One thing that surprised me was how easy it is to navigate from here. The nearest vaporetto stop is just a few minutes’ walk, and you can reach pretty much anywhere in Venice without the crowds you’ll face if you’re staying right in the San Marco area. I found myself using the apartment as a perfect retreat between exploring sessions — you can pop back for a quick rest or to drop off shopping bags without feeling like you’re wasting precious Venice time on long commutes.

Why Guests Love It

The 9.1 rating really reflects what you get here — solid value in an exceptional location without any pretense. Couples especially seem to appreciate the romantic feel of having your own little Venetian hideaway, and I can see why they rated the location so highly for romantic trips. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine what it might actually be like to live in Venice, even if it’s just for a few days. The neighborhood has this authentic rhythm that you just can’t find in the more touristy areas, and honestly, that’s worth more than any fancy amenity.

Venice’s apartments welcome families with vaporetto passes, kitchenettes for market hauls, and bridges leading to Lido playgrounds.

Reviews of San Marco Suite by Bricola Apartments

  • Valérie from France – 26 March 2025 (10/10)

  • Paul from Ireland – 2 March 2025 (7/10)

    Great location. Close to everything.

What could be improved: A little cool at this time of year. But there were plug in heaters supplied. (February)

  • Clara from Switzerland – 21 February 2025 (9/10)

  • Tania from United Kingdom – 16 December 2024 (10/10)

Apartment was very comfortable with everything we needed and a great location!

What could be improved: Hall/stairs lighting when leaving apartment at top of stairs could be better.

  • Nathalie from Belgium – 17 November 2024 (7/10)

    Very comfortable clean quiet apartment.

What could be improved: Missing some soul.

  • Lennox from United Kingdom – 21 October 2024 (8/10)

The location was excellent. The butchers and green grocers nearby were friendly and provided the best steak, burrata and tomatoes we have ever eaten for my husbands birthday meal. We felt safe in the area at night and it wasn’t noisy despite being in the centre of Venice. The bed was comfortable and the appartment was well equipped and we were very impressed with the fresh ground coffee and stove top espresso maker.

What could be improved: We contacted the property owners a week before arrival to check it was ok to collect keys at 2pm and they confirmed via email and WhatsApp but unfortunately the owner didn’t meet us till 2.40pm …we were very tired as had an early flight and no sleep and wanted to get rid of our bags and rest. the owner apologised and said the other owner was ill hence the delay but we would have appreciated contact prior.
The next morning we were cooking lunch and the electric went off in the apartment. We were unable to blow dry our hair or finish cooking and eat our meal so we had to leave the apartment and eat out. I believe the owner hadn’t put money on the meter. We could not get the television to work but we didn’t need it.
31 steps up to the apartment.

  • D from Czech Republic – 26 September 2024 (9/10)

nice apartment in the centre of Venice, equipped kitchen, comfortable sofa, bathroom with shower, wifi working well, helpful owner, close to San Marco, we used vaporetto for 3 days (recommend to visit the islands Burano, Murano, Lido), lot of restaurants everywhere

What could be improved: bed was too soft for us and we do not like one big matress for 2 people but this might not be problem for others

  • Virginia from Greece – 14 September 2024 (9/10)

    The location was excellent

  • Camila from United States – 27 June 2024 (10/10)

    great location and service

What could be improved: the location is quiet

  • Peter from Australia – 26 May 2024 (10/10)

Everything about this property was perfect. The location was ideal, in a quieter area with all the facilities and high-quality restaurants nearby. It's about 10 mins from San Marco and Rialto, and 2 mins from Arsenale to get ferries anywhere in Venice. Chiara was great, very helpful and provided us with some great tips on where to go and the best ways for getting about town. There is also a really useful information pack, with recommendations and tips as well. If you struggle with stairs, be careful it's a long staircase, but Chiara helped us with getting our luggage up them too, and hey, this is Italy, stairs are their thing :D. This is a highly recommended place to spend some time in Venice.
