San Marcuola apartment Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find San Marcuola apartment, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a three-star place in Venice. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries come wrapped in modest packaging. This apartment sits tucked away on Corte del Tagiapiera, and while it might not scream sophistication from the outside, there’s something genuinely charming about its understated approach to Venetian hospitality.

The Cannaregio Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re actually living like a local rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble around San Marco. The San Marcuola vaporetto stop is literally a two-minute walk, which means you can hop on a water bus and be at the Rialto Bridge in about ten minutes. I mean, couples consistently rate this spot 9.6 out of 10, and after spending time here, I get why. You’ve got authentic bacari (those little wine bars locals frequent) right around the corner, plus you can walk to the Jewish Quarter in five minutes if you want some of the best cicchetti in the city.

The Space Itself

The room feels more like staying in someone’s well-maintained Venetian home than a typical hotel setup. There’s a functional kitchen that actually works — not one of those token kitchenettes that barely heat water. I appreciated being able to grab fresh ingredients from the nearby markets and prepare a simple breakfast or late-night snack. The furnishings are clean and practical, though don’t expect designer touches. What you get instead is space to spread out, which honestly feels exceptional when you’re used to cramped European hotel rooms.

Getting Around and Daily Life

The thing about Venice is that location really is everything, and this place nails it. You’re close enough to walk to major sights — Ca’ Rezzonico is about fifteen minutes on foot — but far enough from the crowds that you can actually breathe. There’s a decent supermarket nearby, and the local bars serve proper espresso without the tourist markup. I found myself using this as a genuine base rather than just a place to crash, which made the whole Venice experience feel less rushed and more authentic.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to wow you with fancy amenities or concierge service, but it delivers something more valuable — a real sense of place. The 8.6 guest rating reflects what I experienced: solid value, great location, and the kind of stay that lets you experience Venice at your own pace. If you’re the type who’d rather spend money on amazing meals and experiences rather than thread counts and marble bathrooms, San Marcuola apartment makes a lot of sense. Plus, having that kitchen means you can store wine and snacks — trust me, you’ll appreciate this after a long day of walking on those stone streets.

  • Nick from United Kingdom – 27 March 2025 (9/10)

Amazing location for Venice but away from the tourist traps. Very nice balcony and spare bed.

  • Woodhead from United Kingdom – 11 March 2025 (9/10)

location was perfect, host was really quick at answering us..gave us good advice we're to go..

What could be improved: would have like a small sofa to relax on when we got back after a long day..was only bed and kitchen chairs..

  • Elena from France – 25 February 2025 (9/10)

Wonderful very luminous apartment in the very center of Venice, close to the vaporetto station, and walking distance from the grocery store. The apartment has a balcony with amazing view over the city roofs. The apartment is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave. There are air cons in every room. Great place for two couples or the family with kids, as there are two bedrooms. The host was very helpful and charming.

What could be improved: Everything was great just some nuances 🙂 The water pressure in the shower was not very strong, possibly because of the high floor. But the view totally pays for it. It should be noted that there is no lift in the building, so it may be hard for some people to use the charming steep historical staircase to the top floor. And there is no TV in the apartment, so enjoy your digital detox, or take your tablets with you!

  • Kat from Australia – 23 September 2024 (9/10)

Great location & close to many food outlets. Also super close to the ferry stop. Very clean, plenty of space for a couple & an easy check in process

What could be improved: No TV & pillows were not great but overall a great place

  • Gordon from Australia – 5 September 2024 (9/10)

Great location away from the crowded parts of Venice. A short walk from the vaporetto stop Marcuola Casino. Light and airie apartment. Like so many have said there are stairs, most places will have stairs. Communication with the owner was very good. Adjusted our check in time due to a flight delay was not an issue. She was very helpful and had some good advice.

What could be improved: We only had 3 days 😟

  • Samantha from United Kingdom – 1 June 2024 (9/10)

Lovely outdoor space, close to water stops, restaurants, air con, kitchen facilities, clean, host very communicative and helpful, great location.

What could be improved: Nothing really apart from the stairs at the end of a long day ! However not really an issue, unless you have mobility problems. Kept us fit!

  • Athina from Czech Republic – 9 May 2024 (9/10)

Amazing host, great location, very quiet.
The flat is really spacious and cozy. It has a washing machine, dishwasher, hairdryer and cooking essentials.
Giorgia was extremely nice and helpful. We'll be coming back for sure 🙂

  • Quirk from United States – 13 March 2024 (9/10)

We enjoyed the layout of the apartment, which was perfect for our small group. We loved having a washing machine as well. The location was great. Since it was the top floor of the building it had a nice view of the city. It was a short walk from the train station and there were many restaurants and shops nearby. It wasn't a long walk to the popular destinations, and we appreciated that it was in a quieter part of the city.

What could be improved: We don't have any negatives to share!

  • Carley from Australia – 22 August 2023 (9/10)

Lovely apartment that had everything we needed. Well-equipped kitchen, apartment is just as the photos show really. As others have noted, the stairs are killer – but not unexpected. Vapporetto stop just metres away is super handy.

What could be improved: Could have done with more pillows on the bed, maybe. But hardly a big deal. The mosquitos will get you if you leave windows open – so consider spray or a plug-in device.

  • Chacon from Spain – 25 March 2023 (9/10)

    Beautiful apartment, perfect location
