Hotel Description

You know, stepping off the vaporetto at San Polo and weaving through those narrow calli to find the Venice Palace Tintoretto by Wonderful Italy felt like stumbling into one of those old Venetian stories – the kind where you’re not quite sure if you’re lost or exactly where you need to be. It’s tucked away on San Polo 1296, right in the heart of the district, and honestly, that’s part of the charm. I remember arriving in the late afternoon last spring, dodging the occasional pigeon and the scent of fresh bread from that little bakery on Campo San Polo nearby – you can smell it before you see the hotel’s unassuming entrance. Check-in was straightforward, no fuss; the staff, a mix of locals and folks from Wonderful Italy, were chatty but efficient, handing over keys with a quick tip about avoiding the crowds at Rialto Bridge by heading there early morning. The building itself has that faded palace vibe – think creaky wooden floors that echo your footsteps and high ceilings that make you feel like you’re in a Tintoretto painting (which, I mean, the name nods to, right?). It’s a 3-star spot with a solid 7.8 rating, and it shows – comfortable without trying too hard to be fancy.

What really stuck with me were the rooms; mine overlooked a quiet canal, and waking up to the soft lap of water against the walls was pure magic, especially in the off-season when Venice quiets down after dark. The bed was firm but cozy, with those heavy drapes that block out the morning light if you’re nursing a hangover from too much spritz at a nearby bacaro – like that hidden one on Calle della Madonnetta, just a five-minute stroll away. Breakfast is simple, continental style with decent coffee and pastries, served in a small courtyard that catches the sun around 9 a.m., but don’t expect a buffet extravaganza; it’s more like what you’d get at a friend’s place. Oh, and practical stuff: no parking woes since, well, it’s Venice – everything’s on foot or by boat – but they do offer luggage storage if your flight’s late. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful for such a central spot; you might hear distant church bells from Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari (worth popping into for the Titian altarpiece, by the way), but nothing that kept me up. That said, the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms – sort of a trade-off for the historic bones of the place.

All in all, if you’re after an authentic slice of Venice without the tourist-trap gloss, this is your spot. It’s not perfect – the bathrooms are on the compact side, and during high season like Carnevale, the surrounding streets buzz with energy that might overwhelm if you’re seeking total seclusion – but for the price, it’s a gem. I left feeling like I’d actually lived a bit of la dolce vita, grabbing fresh produce from the Rialto Market (literally steps away) and wandering back for a siesta. Book it if you want to feel connected to the real Venice, you know? Just pack light and embrace the walk – it’ll make the gelato taste even better.

Reviews

  • Neil from Germany – 30 March 2025 (8/10)

Great location. Walking distance to everything. Updated place with modern amenities.

  • Ryan from United Kingdom – 28 March 2025 (7/10)

    It’s location was great

What could be improved: The shower was terrible and the water temperature was impossible to control. Having a kettle would have been nice. The last night the neighbors had a party under the loft bedroom which was very noisy

  • Enescu from Romania – 12 March 2025 (9/10)

The location is perfect, central, good size apartment and clean sheets. The bathroom had a shower with an incorporated radio, a really nice feature. We really enjoyed our stay.

What could be improved: Minor issues: It smelled like a canal sometimes(probably because of the rain?) and the temperature was oscillating between 18 and 22 celsius degrees.

  • Aurelia from Poland – 21 February 2025 (9/10)

Great location. There was no noise from the crowded streets. The apartment is clean and has efficient heating. It is also equipped with all the necessary things, including a coffee machine 😉

  • Tunde from Netherlands – 1 January 2025 (9/10)

Easy to check in as fully automated. Amazing location near to the Rialto bridge. The apartment is big. Two bathrooms. There is an elevator in the building. The keys by code make the stay much easier. Koffie machine, kettle in the kitchen.
    The beds are comfortable.

What could be improved: The bathrooms are very cold. No hot water, only for 20 seconds or so. There is no toilet roll holder in the main bathroom. Walls are thin you could hear the neighbours. The decoration is not as nice as in the photos. The kitchen is quite dark and we could not find the washmachine.

  • Emily from Italy – 9 December 2024 (9/10)

The location is great for those who want to be near all the main sites with transportation accessible, yet on a quiet side alley. For those with small children or mobility issues, this is about as easy as it gets in Venice to move around. The building is also equipped with an elevator that fit the stroller. Apartment is large and comfortable.

What could be improved: Our bedroom, the back bedroom, was exceptionally dusty. The amount of dust under and behind the beds was enough to disrupt my sleep as someone who is allergic to dust. Another point, the check in website is terribly designed. However, the staff was great with contact and managed it.

  • Abram from Italy – 24 November 2024 (9/10)

    very nice bathroom, and kitchen.

What could be improved: beds were slightly uncomfortable

  • Mary from United Kingdom – 26 October 2024 (8/10)

Was very easy to walk to everything 5 minutes to rialto

What could be improved: The lift didn’t stop on my floor it did on floor above and below I have walking difficulties Was my fault for not saying

  • Michaela from United Kingdom – 16 October 2024 (9/10)

The apartment is in an excellent location, just a few minutes from the Rialto bridge. It’s set in a historic building so the setting is beautifully Italian, yet it’s modern and clean. Felt very safe.

What could be improved: Nothing, would book again.

  • Nikki from United States – 18 September 2024 (8/10)

    Great location

What could be improved: Cold showers
